Nachman
lost his battle against cancer at 5:59 pm on July 28th, 1977.
Around his bed stood his family, his close friend Simon
Chilewich, and his doctor Joe Wilder - Chief Surgeon in Joint
Deseases Hospital in New York.

Smadar, Yasmin and I took him back home to Israel, on
August 1st. A ceremony was held in Kennedy Airport synagogue.
He is buried in Kefar Malal cemetery, where his parents,
Rachel and Dov Kaplansky, his uncle and aunt Sara and Yaacov
Neria, and his adored grandfather Noah Kawkewitch (Neria) were
buried before him.
In the red-brown and fertile earth of the Sharon Valley, among
the orchard trees, that he loved so much, there my only love
lies forever...
Throughout his illness in New York, friends tried to
talk him into writing his memories. He declined, saying:
people only write at the end of their lives. His friend Eli
Wiesel, finally convinced him to write at least episodes and
anecdotes from his rich life.
He dictated them to me, but even then he did not use the first
person, refering to himself only as "the young
man".
I think he would have approved of a website.
